Seniors of CPS: Jonah P.

Jonah P., senior — interview conducted by Joseph Shelby

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2023, 11:04: Students flood out from their classes immediately as the lunch bell rings. I scour the crowd for my interviewee, but to no avail. I’m unable to find him. Suddenly, a voice peeks out from behind me. “Welcome, Jonah.” The interview has begun…

Joseph: So, question number 1. If you could choose one song to play every time you walk into a room for the rest of your life, which song would you choose?

Jonah: Good question. Maybe “Galway Girl” by Ed Sheeran. I don’t know. It just has good vibes. It’s a good thing to walk into a room too.

Joseph: Do you think you’d ever get annoyed with it?

Jonah: Yeah, I’ll probably get annoyed with it eventually, but it should be good for like a year.

Joseph: Okay, so you’re kind of maximizing the amount of time and enjoyment. Does it have any sentimental value?

Jonah: Not really, just good vibes.

Joseph: Okay, next question. What’s something unique about you that your classmates might not know?

Jonah: That’s a hard question. I feel like everybody knows that I’m a big runner, but a lot of people don’t know that I actually used to play volleyball pretty competitively and that all changed.

Joseph: That’s cool. What position were you and what made you want to switch?

Jonah: Libero. I don’t know. The community for College Prep’s running team was pretty different, so I switched to that, but all of middle school I was on my club team and it was my thing.

Joseph: Did you try volleyball at CPS at all:

Jonah: For about a week, and then I decided it wasn’t for me anymore. But yeah, for a little while I did.

Joseph: Okay, next question. Looking back at your experience at CPS, what is something you'll never forget?

Jonah: I think river rafting during sophomore or junior year. I don’t really remember. That was pretty fun. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.

Joseph: Do you have a specific memory from the trip?

Jonah: That’s a good question. It was really cold, so sleeping outside was adventurous, and then also swimming. It was freezing.

Joseph: Okay. What are you looking forward to in the future? This could be whatever happens in the rest of the semester, summer, college, or if you’re doing something other than college. Pretty much anything.

Jonah: I’m definitely excited to meet new people in college and lots of friends. I’m also excited for a fun summer.

Joseph: Is there anything specifically that you want from college that you maybe couldn’t have gotten here?

Jonah: Good question. I think more specialized classes for what I’m really interested in. A lot more running definitely. I don’t know.

Joseph: Okay, I see it. I’m not going to keep on prying. If you could say thank you to one room at CPS, which one would it be? Knowing that you’re a runner, maybe one area.

Jonah: I would say maybe the Oak Tree up at the top of campus with the benches under it. That’s a pretty cool spot. I hang out there a lot and it’s a nice place to get homework done and sit in the sun. Thank you, Oak Tree.

Joseph: Do you have a specific memory from there?

Jonah: Maybe just sitting there on Fridays and doing homework with friends.

Joseph: Okay, that sounds like a pretty cool spot. I might have to steal it for myself

Jonah: You definitely should.

Joseph: Alright, that’s the interview. Thanks for coming down.

Jonah: Yeah, no problem.
