Trigger Warning: mention of shooting, antisemitism, and death

Hey Prep community,

As many of you know, [recently] there were two horrific mass shootings that have shaken members of our campus community.

Andrew and the JSU leaders wrote a beautiful note acknowledging the tragedy of the Bondi Beach shooting that happened [on December 14th] in Sydney, Australia. Please read their note on Campus News and accept their support, and the support of adults in our community, to help process this tragedy. Please also acknowledge the pain this may present to our Jewish students, teachers, and staff —compounded by an already sharp rise in antisemitism. I urge you to find ways to share kind words, acts of compassion, and empathy with your friends and peers.

I also want to acknowledge that many of us are thinking about the shooting that took place on Saturday (12/13) afternoon at Brown University. While we are grateful that our current alumni there are physically safe, this shooting took the lives of two students and injured nine more. Students are reeling not only from the aftermath of the shooting, but also from the psychological impact of having it happen in a space where they should feel safe and protected. If you are interested, the President of Brown shared a statement detailing more about the incident and extending condolences to their community.

As always, please know that you are in a community that deeply cares about you and your well-being. While there is much we cannot control, I urge you to seek the support of a trusted adult to process the weight of what has taken place.
