Seniors of CPS: Max W. M.

Interview conducted by Sofia R.

12:31 p.m: It’s the Wednesday of Spirit Week, Mario Day, when I meet Max for his interview. Showing full class spirit with his dress-up, Max is wearing a vibrantly red Mario Kart shirt and electric blue Mario and mushroom pants, evidently a Nintendo fan. I click record. Welcome Max. The interview has begun.

Sofia: The first question is, what's something you're passionate about?

Max: Politics. I'm a big fan of keeping up on current events and tracking things related to goings-on in the world, and particularly the election and stuff like that. Yeah, I like that.

Sofia: Nice. What’s one of your favorite songs?

Max: Married Life by Michael. I don't know how to pronounce his last name. He's the composer from the movie Up. And it's great. It's like totally instrumental. When it's in the movie, it's like following the guy's life. Like as he – you know what I'm talking about?

Sofia: Yeah, yeah.

Max: (Looks up name of composer on phone) Married Life by Michael Giacchino, I think however you say that? Yes, Married Life. It's a great story. Lovely energy to it.

Sofia: Yeah. Do you like the movie Up? Like is that why you like the song?

Max: Yeah, it's a good movie. I liked the song pretty independently of the movie though. I think if I just heard the song, even without the story attached to it, I would just be moved in the same way. I would be captivated by its emotions, and stuff like that.

Sofia: Okay, what's one item on your bucket list?

Max: Oh wait, I actually might have started one in my notes app. (Looks up on phone) Oh, to see the Northern Lights? I want to see Aurora Borealis, that stuff? Yeah. At some point.

Sofia: Is that on your own, or with anyone?

Max: With family would be nice, but also like a solo thing would probably be really pensive and cool too.

Sofia: How have you changed during your time at College Prep?

Max: I think I'm less afraid to be involved, and to engage with people across grades. That's probably because there are more people who are younger than me. So I just feel probably less intimidated by that. But yeah, I think generally being more outgoing and more sociable.

Sofia: Yeah. Okay, and then last one, what's one of your favorite College Prep memories?

Max: Oh that's a hard one. I think the sophomore retreat that I just accompanied people on, because it was so cold and so terrible. But it was good to have done and now I can confidently say I've now been the coldest I've ever been in my life. Like you know, if someone asked me before, “when was the coldest time of your life?” I wouldn't know how to answer it. But now, I have a perfect answer for that, and I think the hardship was kind of worth it. And it was a good thing.

Sofia: How did it feel being slower than my raft?

Max: Okay... We don't have to go there. I think everyone did their best. And some people had guides who did all the rowing for them. Other people rowed with just the people in their boat, as opposed to just being helped out by the tour guides. So I think that's an answer.
