Whether you take a bath, read a book, or eat your weight in Ben & Jerry’s, we all have a stress reliever when times get tough. For me, my stress reliever is all of those. However, I have recently discovered a better, more healthy way to chillax and let the good times flow: the Bachelor. Now I know what you’re thinking: “I will never ever be one of those people who gets invested in a pathetic reality show where desperate women vie for the attention of one man.” To those people I would like to say that I too thought this, but once I watched the first ten minutes of the season, I was hooked. For those of you who don’t know what the Bachelor is, it is essentially a dating show where one lucky man attempts to find true love among thirty women, one of whom could potentially be “the one” for him. The part that makes the show interesting is not how touchingly sweet it is to see beautiful bonds grow between the bachelor and the ladies, but the deception, cattiness and outright war which takes place between the contestants.
The current season, season twenty-one, focuses on Nick, a returning member who has had his heart broken so many times as a contestant on the Bachelorette (the female lead version) and who is now given the chance to be on the other side where the women compete to see who will marry him. When we start the show, there are thirty women, but by the end of the first episode, only twenty-two remain. As you meet each individual, you can instantly tell which of them are going to stay, and which are the “filler girls”, girls who you just know are not going to make it to the final round. You can also pick out your favorites! Personally my favorites are Vanessa, Rachel and Danielle M! What makes this show even more fun to watch is when you get your group of friends to watch it with you and you can have a sort of fantasy league situation where you bet on who’s going to make it and who’s going home. Cruel, I know, but the most fun you’ve ever had. If you have minimal homework on the weekend and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, I highly recommend the Bachelor. You can get lost in the ridiculousness of it all and get a good laugh out of what the girls say (special props to Corinne who, although crazy, makes it riotously more funny!). This show is guaranteed to keep you on your toes and the dates that they go on will blow you away! Overall, this show is probably one of the most addictive I have ever seen and I cannot stress how much I have fallen in love with it. Rating: 11/10
