Seniors of CPS: Clara F.

Interview conducted by Sofia R.

9:32 a.m: I meet Clara in the courtyard for the second time in a week - just eight days earlier we had this same interview, but tragedy struck. The recording didn’t work! So, Clara and I find ourselves repeating all the same steps on a remarkably colder and wetter day, sitting down on a bench in the courtyard. Clara’s wearing an array of blues - jeans with a navy crew neck embroidered with periwinkle. I click record. Welcome Clara. The interview has begun.

Sofia: Okay, repeat questions. (laughs) What's something you're passionate about?

Clara: (at a remarkable speed) For a class, definitely English. I've loved every English class that I've been in at CPS, especially this semester, with like Body Electric, where we do a book called Klara and the Sun. Just kind of fun, because I'm Clara. Good time. (laughs) Yeah, but I love analyzing books and just writing about them. I love essays. I don't know.

Sofia: Do you have a favorite book you've read?

Clara: In school, or like, ever?

Sofia: Either!

Clara: Um, I don’t know! Low key, I know what book I didn’t like.

Sofia: Let’s do that one.

Clara: Much Ado About Nothing freshman year was a journey. Love Shakespeare. Well, ehhh. I just didn’t like Much Ado About Nothing.

Sofia: Okay. What's one of your favorite songs?

Clara: I definitely- I love Hozier. And I'm devastated I couldn't go to his concert a couple weeks back. Anything by him. I think I'm listening to Movement right now which has been pretty fun. Or anything would be fine. I've listened to his songs like a gazillion times.

Sofia: What's one item on your bucket list?

Clara: Ooh, still Iceland. I definitely want to see puffins. They’re so cute, and round, and kind of toucan-ish, if they were cuter. (laugh)

Sofia: How have you changed during your time at College Prep?

Clara: I'm definitely stressing myself out a little less when it comes to individual grades and stuff like that. I think I put a lot of my self worth on what grade I got, which is definitely not healthy but definitely common for CPS students. So I’m definitely trying to work on that.

Sofia: Yeah, that’s good. And then, last one, what's one of your favorite College Prep memories?

Clara: Um, definitely, it was like junior year and all my friends threw me and Sophia, we share a birthday, a surprise party. It was singing karaoke and a bunch of Justin Bieber and Katy Perry in the Hill building, just like belting it out. It was super fun, and we stabbed the Piñata with a compass needle. (laugh) It was so funny, but that was definitely my favorite moment.

Sofia: Sounds like fun! Thank you.
