Interview conducted by William C.

12:20 pm on a bright Thursday noon. There’s not much hustle and bustle around the courtyard and I spot Satyel sitting on a bench by the Student Commons.

William: What's something you're passionate about?

Satyel: Something I’m passionate about? I’m really passionate about animals like pets, specifically cats and dogs. I have a dog. His name is Henry. And I volunteer at a pet shelter called Brooklyn domain. So I take care of the animals there. And I’m really passionate about that.

William: Did you find your love for animals at an early age?

Satyel: Yeah, I think so. I grew up with a cat. So technically I’m a cat person and a dog person. Because yeah, I was born and there was a cat in the house. And then I got my dog when I was pretty young. So yeah, I’d say yeah.

William: Wow, that’s pretty fascinating! Our next question is what's one of your favorite songs?

Satyel: Oh, right now I’ve been listening to “Mascara” by Jasmine Sullivan. A lot lately.

William: Do you like that genre of music in particular?

Satyel: Yeah, I think so. I like a lot of R&B stuff, but I also really like grunge.

William: That’s cool. And what's one item on your bucket list?

Satyel: Um, I’ve always wanted to go surfing. I’m like, I don’t spend that much time like in or on the ocean or anything like that. But I’ve always wanted to like do some kind of ocean sport, like surfing or even sailing or something like that.

William: Where would you like to go surfing?

Satyel: I don’t know. Somewhere hot. Ideally, somewhere that’s a little bit warmer because I think one of the main reasons I don’t go to beach is because they’re really cold here. So probably somewhere warm.

William: Is that something you’d like to do probably this summer?

Satyel: I don’t think so. I think there’ll be something that I do when I’m older. And I like really want to complete a bunch of things I’ve never done before?

William: Alright, how have you changed during your time at College Prep?

(A friend from Drama tech walks up and tells Satyel something)

Satyel: Oh, okay, thanks. How I changed one thing I’d say is I think like goal setting. I didn’t really set very many goals for myself when I started College prep, but I feel like now I like that’s like a skill I felt is just like being able to set goals like just even small ones just for myself. Yeah. Yeah.

William: Is that a lesson you would like to give to the new grades?

Satyel: Yeah, I think goal setting is really important. I think it helped me stay motivated. Even just small goals for the next day.

William: And finally, what was one of your favorite College Prep memories?

Satyel: Oh, probably doing sound for like the shows, the plays, and musicals. I think Mamma Mia was probably my favorite. I got to work on like the microphones with the actors. And that was a lot of fun. So yeah, I’ve been doing that.

William: Is it a lot of work to mix the sound for all the shows?

Satyel: Yeah it is actually a lot of work. But we got a good amount of time during tech to do it. And yeah, it’s really fun. So yeah.

William: Alright Satyel, great talking to you and thank you so much for your time!
