Devin on a hike senior year

It’s November 21st, 2025. Devin and I meet on the Music Lawn and take a seat…The interview begins.

Jessie: Hi Devin, welcome to your Seniors of CPS interview! We’re going to start with some rapid-fire questions and then move into some longer-response ones. Ready?

Devin: Yeah, of course.

Jessie: Freshman physics or Asian Worlds?

Devin: Asian Worlds.

Jessie: Okay. Go-to karaoke song?

Devin: Uh…any white girl music — Katy Perry or Beyoncé, anything like that.

Jessie: Love it. Okay, favorite day of the week?

Devin: Friday or Saturday… I’ll say Saturday.

Jessie: Okay, that’s totally fair. One item on your bucket list?

Devin: Ooh, I want to go to Greece. I’ve never been, and it’s totally on my bucket list — the culture, the beach, the food. The food seems so good.

Jessie: I’ve heard some great things about the food, for sure. Have you been anywhere around Greece?

Devin: Yeah, I’ve been to Italy and France for a bit, but not Greece.

Jessie: Okay, that sounds great. Now let’s move into some more open-ended questions. What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

Devin: Um…that’s hard. I really like reading — that’s something people don’t know about me. I have a ton of books on my desk, big piles of them, and I have a Goodreads account that I love very dearly. I track all the books I read.

Jessie: I love Goodreads.

Devin: Yeah, reading is totally top-tier — something most people don’t know about me.

Jessie: What’s your favorite book, if you can name one?

Devin: Favorite book…okay, this isn’t necessarily my favorite, but it’s one I always recommend. It’s called Mindset by Carol — I forget her last name, but she’s a psychology PhD. It’s a super interesting book.

Jessie: Is it nonfiction?

Devin: Yeah, nonfiction. It’s about self-betterment and improvement through mindset changes around certain things.

Jessie: That’s really cool — especially useful as a student.

Devin: Definitely.

Jessie: What’s one of your favorite CPS memories?

Devin: This isn’t a specific event, but just hanging out with my friends — playing random games on our computers, messing around in the gym. Small moments like that really stick with me, just goofing off.

Jessie: Totally — the small moments are great too. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Devin: Hopefully graduated college. I don’t know how much college I’ll do or exactly what I’ll pursue, but I want to do engineering. So maybe having some kind of engineering job by then would be nice — something along those lines.

Jessie: That sounds great. Okay, last question: if you could give advice to your freshman self, what would it be?

Devin: Believe in yourself. It sounds corny, but a lot of the things at College Prep that feel super stressful — and they are — become way more manageable if you take them one step at a time. You have so many resources around you, and everything’s within your control. And have fun with it — there are so many great opportunities here, and taking advantage of them is the best use of your time.

Jessie: Yeah, that’s great advice. Thank you so much!

Devin: Thank you!
