Interview conducted by Surina P. '27

It’s a chilly day on Monday, December 1, 2025. I meet Irene in A1, the freshman english room. It’s 11:47AM and the interview begins.Â
Surina: Hey Irene!Â
Irene:Â Hey Surina!
Surina: Are you ready to get this interview underway?
Irene:Â Heck yeah!
Surina: Alright. We’re going to start with some rapid fire questions. First, what's your favorite Trader Joe's snack?Â
Irene: I like the chocolate oranges that they have in the winter. Those are very good.
Surina: Those are quite good. Next question, which did you prefer: freshman Physics or Asian Worlds?Â
Irene: Asian worlds, because I had a really good table and I like history. It was just a really great introduction to CPS.
Surina: Awesome. And what’s your favorite way to spend a rainy day?Â
Irene: I would watch a movie, probably something stupid, like not a good movie, but a funny movie. I would make popcorn, and then, crochet or craft or do something while I’m watching the movie. And I’m, like, sitting cross legged on my couch with a blanket.Â
Surina:Â That sounds nice! Do you have a go-to movie for those rainy days?
Irene: Ooh—oh my god—well, okay, I’ll watch 21 Jump Street if I really want to laugh. But if I just want something that’s kind of relaxing but funny, probably Knives Out. Anything that’s on Netflix or Tubi. If it’s not free, I ain’t watching it! [laughs]
Surina: Those are some classics! Okay, now for our more in-depth questions. What is one of your favorite CPS memories?Â
Irene: I think one of my favorite memories is the first time I walked to College to go get boba. Like, in my freshman year, because I think that’s just a ritual at CPS, you know? You don’t have a car your freshman year and you just walk down. It was kind of cold, and was it that fun? No. But it was right before winter finals, so it was actually nice because I got to go with my friend and get boba, which cheered me up before my math final!
Surina: Yeah, it’s definitely sort of a rite of passage. And then, if you could say thank you to one place on campus, what would it be?
Irene: I would thank the waterfall that’s near Joy and Danya’s offices, because that waterfall is just gorgeous. Like I love it! It’s so nice sounding and beautiful. I’m not joking, I like water features. They remind me of my grandpa’s house because he has a little pond and a little waterfall in that pond. And the waterfall on campus, I just love it and I’m sad that it’s not always running. I guess we’re in a drought though, so that makes sense. It’s a gorgeous little waterfall—I really love that thing!
Surina: And finally where do you see yourself in five years?Â
Irene: Well, okay, I’ll graduate college. Hopefully—I think I will. [laughs] I think I’ll either be in grad school or I’ll be in the corporate world. I’d like to be in a midsize metropolitan city, so probably somewhere on the East Coast. I feel like I see myself early in my career, but enjoying life. I have like my little apartment. It's going to be so cute! I don't want to have a pet because I don't think I'd be at a stable enough point in my life. And I don't want to put that on a creature that doesn't know anything.Â
Surina: That's really thoughtful of you to put the pet’s wellbeing first! Thanks for your time Irene.
Irene:Â Bye Surina!
