Surina: Hey, Sophia! Ready for your Seniors of CPS interview?
Sophia: Yeah!
Surina: Awesome, let's start with some rapid-fire questions. First, what's your go-to karaoke song?
Sophia: Oh, okay, I don't do karaoke often, but I would say “Grenade” by Bruno Mars.
Surina: Nice. What's one thing you regret spending money on so much?
Sophia: Something I regret spending money on—oh—boba with a new flavor, and I didn’t end up liking it. So I felt like I wasted money.
Surina: What was the flavor?
Sophia: Oh, it was strawberry, but it tasted like really artificial strawberry, and they forgot to add milk to it even though I asked for milk.
Surina: Ah, I see. Next question: what's one item on your bucket list?
Sophia: One item on my bucket list. [thinks] One item on my bucket list is to go to Israel, because I've never met any of my family there. Apparently I have a bunch of cousins over there, and I’ve never met them.
Surina: Cool. What's your favorite article of clothing?
Sophia: Probably jeans. Those are reliable.
Surina: Okay. And here’s the last rapid-fire question: what's your favorite Trader Joe’s snack?
Sophia: The dark-chocolate-covered pretzels.
Surina: Those are a classic. Now, time for a couple of longer response questions. If you could give advice to your freshman self, what would it be?
Sophia: I think it would be to definitely stress way less, because freshman year actually does not matter, [laughs] like that much. And I would have told myself to push myself to try new things and to find out what I like earlier on, especially clubs. Because I feel like I did not explore clubs at all freshman year and sophomore year, and I was kind of, like, I wish I would have explored that. And I would have told myself to prioritize more social connections and discovering things I like for another year, so I would have been able to do activities throughout my time at CPS.
Surina: I think that's great advice! Up next: what's one of your favorite CPS memories?
Sophia: Technically, my memory isn’t in CPS, but it’s a CPS trip. I really enjoyed my Miami intraterm last year. It was super fun because I actually had no friends from my main friend group in that trip, but I got to connect with other people. And that was so fun because I got to do it with Lexi Zhu and Claire Drasin and we were all roomies. It was super fun because the chaperones were Ms. Alicia and Tran and they were really fun too. We just went to a bunch of beaches. It was cool to connect with new people that I never spend time with.
Surina: Okay, last question, where do you see yourself in five years?
Sophia: In five years, I see myself, well, I’ll have graduated college already. So probably in grad school or med school. Probably med school, because I'm gonna fulfill pre-med requirements, and then during college I'll see if pre-med is for me. And if it is, then med school. But then if not, grad school. And I think I'm probably going to try to be in California, since I’m going out of state for college. I'm gonna try to come back to California, or stay on the East Coast, one of those two. And then one more thing is that me and my best friend, we're gonna try to see if we can somehow get an apartment. Like, if we're doing college close to each other, then we would try to get an apartment, so we can be roomies even though we're going to different colleges. So we'll see!
Surina: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview Sophia!
